Why They Are Here
Dewan Huell is in CPP’s Top 100 players for the 2016-2017 season because of his frame and his offensive capability around the rim. The high flying sophomore boasts a 7’0 wingspan which allows for closing down passing lanes and tough finishes in the paint, including a hook shot which is one of his biggest assets. A major jump in points per game is expected for Huell for the upcoming season as his ability to both shoot mid range jumpers and get to the rim grows.
Role on This Year’s Team
Huell’s minutes can be expected to add up as the season wears on, especially into ACC play. With only one true center on the roster, head coach Jim Larrañaga will most likely ask Huell to play a big role in defending the post and owning the paint on offense, assuming he can improve on his ability to establish position. Huell will also help freshman Deng Gak, who plays a similar game to Huell, assimilate into the college basketball scene.
College Season/NBA Prospects
As of right now, Huell has sparked some interest from NBA scouts, however, in order to be seriously considered he is going to have to polish up his game on the offensive end. Although has proven that he can finish at the rim, he struggles with posting up and maintaining position in the half court. With offensive improvement and added bulk, Dewan Huell has major NBA potential.
