Tre Jones, #1 PG of 2018, to Duke

Tre Jones, a Point Guard from Apple Valley, Minnesota, has committed to Duke. He chose Duke over Minnesota, Ohio State, USC, UCLA, and Arizona. Minnesota was seen as the primary contender.

Jones, who is currently ranked #9 on 247Sports, and the #1 PG, has risen significantly in the recruiting rankings over the last six months. He is the younger brother of Tyus Jones, a reserve for the Minnesota Timberwolves who was a Point Guard for Duke in 2014-15 and won a national title. Tre Jones has been predicted to continue the family tradition since he entered high school, but Minnesota made a legitimate push.

Tre Jones has a similar playing style to his brother. An excellent floor general, he has excellent vision and court awareness, and raises the level of play of his teammates. He isn’t the best athlete or a great shooter yet, but the positives far outweigh the negatives.

Jones is the first commitment in Duke’s Class of 2018. Depending on pro decisions and recruiting decisions, he could start from Day 1, like his brother. Duke is still in the running for the #2 PG Daruis Garland as well, creating the potential for a dynamic all PG backcourt.
