2016-2017 Stats: 15.2 ppg, 13.1 rpg
Why they are here
Simply put, Angel Delgado is the best rebounder in the country. Delgado had 27 double-doubles a year ago, dominating on the glass throughout the year. He also came into his junior year much improved on the offensive end of things and it showed, going from 9.9 ppg as a sophomore to 15.2 ppg as a junior.
Role on this year’s team
After flirting with the NBA draft, Delgado returns to Seton Hall as their most important player in what looks to be a big year for the Pirates. With Khadeen Carrington transitioning into the point guard role, having Delgado down low to run the offense through will make things a bit easier for Carrington, who has started at shooting guard the past two seasons. Delgado is also an excellent passer out of the post and has the ability to make the players around him better, which is rare to say about a big man.
College Season/NBA Prospect
As good as Delgado is, his future when it comes to playing in the NBA is unclear. Delgado can’t jump out of the gym like a lot of other guys that the scouts prefer, is a terrible free throw shooter and doesn’t have much of a mid-range jumper, although he has improved in that area.
Delgado’s rebounding will be enough to either make him a second-round pick or a G-League player, but he might wind up having a nice career overseas instead of in the states.
