2 Xavier vs 14 Weber State
Friday, March 18th 9:30 in St. Louis, Missouri
The Xavier Musketeers begin their tournament run Friday night in St. Louis against Weber State from the great state of Utah. Xavier comes into the game being currently ranked 9th in the AP poll after previously being ranked number 5 for numerous weeks. Weber has not come close to cracking the AP top 25 but that doesn’t mean they will roll over and hand this game to Xavier. Although Xavier should win this game easily, in the year of upset in college basketball nothing is a for sure win.
Weber state has some claim to fame as their most notable basketball alumni is current NBA point guard Damian Lillard. Their current basketball team though relies on guard Jeremy Senglin and forward Joel Bolomboy. Those two score 46 percent of their teams points and really carry the load. The rest of the team is filled with role players, but their main focus on those two guys up there. Both are very quality players but it would be hard to match up against a deep Xavier team.
The keys for Xavier in this game will to come out early and attack aggressively from the start. If X can come out ready to play and have a fast start it will be a long night for Weber State. Xavier needs to do what they do best which is rebound at an impressive rate and play good defense throughout. Look for Trevon Bluiett to take over and have a great game as he usually does against lesser opponents.
Although you never know this year in college basketball, I am going to go with Xavier on this one. Xavier’s deep bench and plethora of quality players is what is going to put them past Weber State, wouldn’t be surprised if it was close though.
