Hoosiers Win The Big Ten Outright In Iowa City

The Indiana Hoosiers (24-6, 14-3) won 81-78 against the Iowa Hawkeyes which is their 4th win in a row, & OUTRIGHT B1G CHAMPS for the 2nd time in 4 years. IU becomes the 3rd team in the past 20 years to achieve this. It is the 13th outright title by the Hoosiers (tied for tops with Ohio State), & the 22nd as B1G regular season champions (tied for tops with Purdue). I can be tough, regarding Coach Tom Creans’s bench coaching acumen, but truly thought he continuously made great game adjustments in the 2nd half. One of the major adjustments for the second half was fixing up the defense. Indiana held Iowa to 38.8% shooting for the game, & holding the Hawkeyes to 1 of their last 12 was obviously key for a victory. With 40 seconds to go in the game, as Dan Dakich called him the ‘Big Ten Player of the Year’, Kevin “Yogi” Ferrell hit a step back three pointer to win the Hoosiers the big ten title. Individually Yogi led the way with 20 pts, 5 assists & 1 steal. He also played a game high 37 minutes. A double double for Thomas Bryant. He had 12 pts & 10 boards. Troy Williams played well and finished the game with 15 pts, 7 boards & 1 steal. Nick Ziesloft had 11 pts, 4 boards & 1 steal as well as shooting 3-4 from behind the arc. Max Bielfeldt pitched in 8 pts & 1 steal. OG had 6 pts, 6 boards & 1 block. His defense on Jarrod Uthoff was great. Finally Juwan had 5 pts, 5 boards & 1 block. Robert Johnson was out again for IU, but look for him to probably play this weekend when Melo Trimble and the Maryland Terrapins come to Bloomington. One last thing, Coach Tom Crean was VERY emotional address to the team after the game when he kept repeating, “there is NO WAY (times 6 at least) Maryland is coming in on our Senior Day….” & he was in tears, while doing so. It is going to be BEYOND NUTSO in The Hall Sunday!
