There has been quite a bit of action on the recruiting trail lately. I’m going to give you an idea of where IU stands with some of their targets in the 2016 class.
As many of you know, Miles Bridges is a 6’6″ SF from Huntington Prep. He is a top 10 player in the class of 2016, and had previously listed Indiana, Michigan State, and the blue team south of the Indiana border, in his top three. Yesterday, he announced that he will in fact be attending Michigan State to play with fellow top 30 recruits Josh Langford and Cassius Winston. This was already a loaded class, but his commitment pushed Tom Izzo’s 2016 class to number one in the nation. The Spartans are still looking to add top five player Josh Jackson to their class which would make them a force to be reckoned with next year.
Bruce Brown announced the other day that he will be taking his official visit to Indiana the weekend of October 15-17. Brown is a 6’3″ guard who is ranked 50th in the 2016 class by ESPN. He is considered perhaps the best perimeter defender in the country. Adding an elite defender like him would be a huge get for an Indiana team who has been at the bottom of all sorts of defensive categories over the last few years. IU is considered the likely landing spot for Brown as of now.
Last weekend was De’Ron Davis’ official visit to Indiana. Davis is a 6’9″ PF from Colorado. He is ranked 47th by ESPN in the 2016 class. His athleticism as well as his length will allow him to be a dual threat on both offense and defense. He would be a great addition to our backcourt for next season provided that Thomas Bryant stays for his sophomore year. As of now, Indiana is the favorite. Jeff Rabjohns from Peegs.com said that Davis will likely make his college choice sometime in late October or early November.
Talented 6’5″ combo guard Rawle Alkins is a highly touted prospect from New York. He is a complete physical specimen, built like a linebacker, and he dominates his opponents based on pure strength. Indiana is in his top 8. Right now it is hard to tell which way he is leaning. Tom Crean is making a hard push for this top 20 player. The Hoosiers have been recruiting him hard since his freshman year and the big boys of Kentucky and others have just joined the hunt for Alkins.
Yes, IU is still on Thon Maker’s tail. However, no one, probably including himself, have no idea where he is leaning. Indiana and Arizona State are the supposed top 2, but there has not been any recent news on his recruitment.
This 6’8″ wing from Oak Hill Academy has just recently attracted attention from Tom Crean and his coaching staff. He is ranked 32nd in the 2016 class and is expected to make his official visit for Hoosier Hysteria weekend.
