CPP Top 100: #11 Jock Landale

Leading up the season we are doing a countdown of the Top 100 players in college basketball. These rankings are based on a poll made up of 14 CPP writers. These writers span from UCLA to Seton Hall so there is very little bias. Each day we will release the latest player on our ranking with a small write-up. Be sure to check out the rest of the Top 100 articles!

Jock Landale

St Mary’s

PF/C 6’11

2016-2017 Stats: (Junior) 16.9 Points, 1.7 Assists, and 9.5 Rebounds per game.

Why They Are Here

Jock Landale ranks #11 in our Top 100 because of his dominant presence on the court for St Mary’s. Jock’s big body has proven to be too much to handle for teams in the West coast Conference. Every part of his game is solid, he can shoot, dribble, and pass like a guard, but his height at 6’11 allows him to be a greater threat on the floor. Now he needs to learn to lead his team to great heights in the post season.

Role on This Year’s Team

St Mary’s still cannot get out of the shadow of Gonzaga in the WCC. Gonzaga has dominated the conference for many years, and for once it seems that St Mary’s is the favorite. Gonzaga lost many key assets from last year’s run at the National Championship, but returned and added players who have potential. Landale needs to be able to score like he has been, but be able to take his St Mary’s team to a new level and dethrone Gonzaga.

College Season/NBA Prospects

Jock is a first round talent and a fantastic NBA Prospect. He has all the assets of an NBA big man, but he will need to help St Mary’s improve as a team to be a staple in the NBA. Proving that he can lead St Mary’s in taking out Gonzaga will prove to me, and prove to NBA scouts that he is ready for the big league.
