Why They Are Here

After a very strange situation involving his cousin accusing him of being ineligible, Mo Bamba is ready to turn the program around with Shaka Smart at the helm. Bamba is a physical freak with a 7’8” wingspan and 9’6” standing reach. Add that to his fluidity on the court and sneaky athleticism and you have the makings of a potentially dominate college basketball player. Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of Bamba as a basketball player is his intelligence. He is highly regarded as an extremely smart, well-rounded 18 year old. His maturity should allow him to adapt and excel at the college level at a quick pace.

Role on This Year’s Team

Shaka Smart was able to bring in a solid recruiting class headlined with Matt Coleman and Mo Bamba. The Longhorns also return guard Andrew Jones, giving them a solid big 3. In terms of what Bamba’s role will be, I expect him to be the focal point on both ends. Although his offensive game is still developing, his size and length should cause issues for opposing bigs. On defense, he is an absolute block machine. I would expect him to be amongst the top shot blockers in the nation this year, given he should see a ton of minutes.

College Season/NBA Prospects

Likely to be one and done, Bamba is projected from 5-10 in the 2018 NBA Draft. His length, fluidity, and athleticism make him extremely valuable as a potentially elite shot blocker in the league. Depending on how far his offense comes along this season, he could easily shoot up into the top 5 of this Big-heavy draft class.
