2016-2017 Stats: 12.0 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 2.5 APG
Why They Are Here
For a player of his size, Braxton key is incredibly versatile. He can score, he can rebound, and he possesses elite passing abilities as well. He is not looked at as the guy who runs the Alabama offense but he has certainly shown that he is comfortable as a playmaker with the ball in his hands. While not quite as talented, Key’s game is very similar to that of Paul George. He can make plays whenever the team needs him to.
Role on This Year’s Team
Key was one of the top players on the Crimson Tide team last season and he will be expected to play at an even higher level this year. Alabama returns all five of their starters as well as the rest of their bench. Freshman point guard Collin Sexton and Key should form a strong one-two punch that could wreak havoc on opponent’s defensive game plans. Fortunately for Key, if he does, fall into a sophomore slump, he will have the rest of his teammates to pick up the slack but barring a letdown, Key is the heart and soul of this Crimson Tide team.
College Season/NBA Prospects
Key has the talent to be an NBA player at the moment but would be better off honing his game at the college level for at least one more season before declaring for the draft. He would currently be a late second round pick but a few more seasons of SEC basketball could push him to the first round in future drafts.
