Throughout the course of the off-season I will release my season’s preview for each Power 5 team. I will start out west with the PAC-12 teams and the work my way east. These previews will be very simple but a nice guide for the casual college basketball fans to become aware of some of the new faces and up and coming teams for the 2017-2018 season.
Season Preview: Oregon Ducks
Last Season: 33-6, National Runner Up
Key Losses: Chris Boucher, Dillon Brooks, Jordan Bell, Casey Benson, Kavell Bigby-Williams, Tyler Dorsey, Dylan Ennis
Key Additions: Troy Brown, Victor Bailey, Kenny Wooten, Abu Kigab, Elijah Brown, MiKyle McIntosh
Oregon put all their chips on the table for the 2016-2017 season. The Ducks had a loaded roster that just fell short to North Carolina in the National Championship game. In the aftermath of that brutal loss, Dana Altman has to put the pieces of his program back together all but one rotation player have left the program for one reason or another.
This year’s Oregon Ducks team will have a much different look. Payton Pritchard showed promise in his freshman year and he will need to score more and be a leader in his sophomore campaign. The freshman class is very talented with Troy Brown leading the pack but none of the freshman appear to be game changers right away. There will be growing pains very early as these freshmen will be thrown into the fire immediately. Graduate transfer Elijah Brown will need to be huge for the Ducks immediately as he averaged over 19 points a game last year at New Mexico.
This will be a rebuilding year for Dana Altman and the Ducks. This roster is not ready to compete in the talented PAC-12 but if kept in tact, this group of players could be a force after some development and seasoning.
