2016-2017 Stats: 14.8 PPG, 7.8 RPG
Why They Are Here
Chimezie Metu is an extremely explosive post scorer and can leave defenders in his dust with a plethora of post moves. He is an excellent finisher over both shoulders and his baby hook is extremely effective. Metu is also a solid offensive rebounder and has a knack for highlight reel put-back dunks. Since his freshman year, the power forward has also developed a consistent mid-range jump shot that is very hard to guard in a pick and roll situation.
Role on This Year’s Team
Metu as well as the rest of the USC Trojans could be in for a huge year. Metu will be the primary offensive weapon on the inside and will be expected to guard the elite power forwards and centers of the Pac-12. USC will be lead by forward Bennie Boatwright but Metu is the key man in the middle that the Trojans will look to build their offense around.
College Season/NBA Prospects
Metu is almost a lock for the first round in the 2018 draft. Metu’s ceiling is extremely high and with NBA level coaching, he could develop into a solid NBA player. For Metu to really thrive at the next level, he will need to step up his interior defense as he often looks lost and out of place while defending opposing centers. A solid junior season from Metu almost ensures that he will be a name to watch in the 2018 NBA draft.
