No, you did not misread the headline.
Yes, the Western is supposed to be there.
In a stunning decision, Mitchell Robinson, the #9 player in the class of 2017 and the #1 Center within the class, has committed to Western Kentucky over LSU amongst others.
Robinson, a former Texas A&M commit, decommitted in April and reopened his recruitment. Western Kentucky and LSU were the top two suitors according to the Crystal Ball that 247Sports uses, with five predictions for WKU and four for LSU, out of nine. Other schools he considered were Alabama and North Carolina.
Robinson, who is 7’ and 200 pounds, is a late bloomer who only cracked the Top 10 recently. Although skinny as a rail, Robinson should be able to pack more weight onto his frame and become a dominant post presence. He has excellent stamina and is able to play well in transition, while on defense he has the length and athleticism to become an excellent shot blocker.
The Hilltoppers, now coached by former long-time Mississippi State coach Rick Stansbury, have now landed by far and away the biggest recruit in school history. They are coming off an 18-16 season in which they finished 8th in the Conference USA standings. Robinson should start from Day 1 in the 2017-18 season, and immediately turns the Hilltoppers into a contender.
