Why They Are Here

Ranked only #50 in his recruiting class, Robert Williams seemed to play with a chip on his shoulder his freshman year and people started to take notice. Williams is a full-grown man. He made scouts reflect to themselves why he wasn’t a five star. People were surprised when he came back to school after having such a fantastic freshman campaign. Williams was named SEC Defensive Player of the Year, SEC All-Freshman Team, and 2nd Team All-SEC.

Role on This Year’s Team

Williams is A&M’s star player. The team should and will be oriented around him this year. However with Davis, Hogg, and Gilder surrounding him, a lot of the scoring pressure won’t be on him. Williams will be mostly responsible for being a defensive stalwart and rebounding on both ends of the floor. On offense, expect A&M to work a lot of pick and rolls using Williams. His ability to both finish above the rim and shoot from outside could make him very difficult to guard.

College Season/NBA Prospects

Robert Williams will repeat as SEC Defensive Player of the Year and will be close to 3 block a game. I see him averaging a double-double and in doing so will make him at least 1st Team All-SEC. I see him as a lock to be a lottery pick just based on his physical ability combined with his ability to shoot it from outside.
