Gainesville, FL– On a Friday night in the O’Connell Center, Gator fans got a taste of what to expect from the basketball team this season. The annual Gator Madness pep rally was hosted by former Gator Jason Williams, better known as the slick ball handler called White Chocolate in the NBA, as well as WWE superstar Titus O’neal, a former gator football player. The event included team introductions, player and coach interviews, a three point contest and a slam dunk contest.
The shootout included Jason Williams, all time Florida 3-point leader Lee Humphrey, Dorian Finney-Smith and the eventual champion Freshman guard Brandone Francis-Ramirez. It was a great showing from the redshirt freshman and Humphrey and Williams gave him a good fight for the title. The Dunk contest was also a good showing of the Gators young talent, with freshman Kevarrius Hayes winning with a trifecta of sweet dunks that excited the crowd of students and fans.
The even also showcased the final roster for the Gators, including walk-on Junior guard Jhonny Victor, an athlete at UF for track and field, who attended my high school. Victor brings incredible rim shaking athleticism as well as a good outside shooting touch. Victor looks to mesh well into coach white high energy system and should provide good minutes off the bench.
